Isle of Wight County has pulled its legal notices from two newspapers with which it has done business for decades — The Smithfield Times and Tidewater News.
Last week, the county attorney defended a decision that unspecified staff made at the beginning of the fiscal year, which started in July. The county stopped putting its legal notices in The Smithfield Times and the Tidewater News that month.
That means that for each public hearing or other event, no notice about it has appeared in either paper for the past three months. If people want to find out about any public hearing in Isle of Wight County, they will have to read The Daily Press, based out in Newport News.
