When the Board of Supervisors voided a boundary line adjustment with the town of Smithfield, it opened the door to possible development along Nike Park Road as well as an annexation bid by the town.
The Board of Supervisors voted in June to nix a pending boundary line adjustment that would have added a Battery Park Road property, known as the Scott farm, and land on Great Spring Road, to the town of Smithfield.

Fair chair: roving politicians are O.K.

Politicians wandering throughout the fairgrounds talking and passing out pamphlets is O.K. — as long as it’s not in a booth, said Fair Chairman Danny Byrum.
It’s the booth that’s banned, he said.
The issue came to a head again this year after Del. Rick Morris (R-64th) asked county officials if he could have a dunking booth at the fair — with all proceeds going to CASA — a non-profit organization that helps abused and neglected children through the court process.
