UPDATE: The Times-Picayune reported Tuesday night that Perera has been eliminated from the Orleans Parish superintendent search. The School Board is still considering two other applicants.
Just one day after Isle of Wight County schools Superintendent Dr. Katrise Perera announced her resignation, The Times-Picayune named her as a finalist for the Orleans Parish superintendent position in New Orleans.
She was scheduled for a second interview Tuesday night, according to The New Orleans Advocate.
Most of New Orleans’ 83 schools are independent charters overseen by the state. The local Orleans Parish system runs six schools and has authorized 14 charters, according to the Times-Picayune report.
Perera said in a press release that she was leaving to be closer to family, especially her mother.
