Rainfall wreaked havoc throughout Isle of Wight County over the weekend and into Tuesday.

Schools were canceled Tuesday and some people were not able to get to work due to impassable roads.

Rising water stranded as many as 20 drivers at the Raceway gas station on Carrollton Boulevard near the foot of the James River Bridge Tuesday morning, said Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department volunteer Albert Burckard.

Broadband is one step closer to coming to Surry County.

The Thursday meeting focused mostly on setting a fee structure for broadband. The county itself will own the equipment to bring broadband to customers.
