A lack of coverage

Editor, Smithfield Times

Last year I wrote a letter to the editor commenting on the superb organization that went into Smithfield’s Christmas craft show because there was little mention of it in The Smithfield Times. This year, it was bigger than ever. Thousands of people came to Smithfield, supported the crafters but also supported our shops. People spoke of Smithfield as a great place to be at Christmas and yet there was not one mention of the craft show in the paper.

Once again, the Christmas parade was well covered. I think we have a “Grinch” in The Smithfield Times. Should not the paper show respect for a job well done and extend thanks through some print coverage for the many staff and volunteers who once again brought accolades to Smithfield?

(EDITOR’S NOTE: News Editor Diana McFarland spent that Friday evening photographing the market and most of that weekend trying to capture everything else in town, including the tree lighting, Breakfast with Santa and the parade. The only thing lacking was sufficient space in last week’s paper for all the pictures. We are printing some more of her work this week. Merry Christmas from the Grinch.)
