Smithfield’s own Forte jazz band kicks off this year’s Summer Concert Series Friday.

The music begins at 8 p.m. at The Smithfield Times gazebo stage on Main Street in downtown Smithfield. The concert is free. Bring a chair or blanket for added comfort.

The eight-piece ensemble includes Brain Pinner on the saxophone, Pete Jaymes on piano, Jeffrey Bradby on guitar, Daniel Quackenbush on bass, Daryl Rawlings on percussion, Michael Warren on the conga’s and Shevonne Newby on vocals.

Next up is the Bobby BlackHat Band on June 3.

This is the Summer Concert Series’ 30^th season. Sponsored by The Smithfield Times and the Isle of Wight Arts League, the event provides free entertainment each Friday from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Forte has been a loyal supporter of the series and has performed for more than half of its 30 seasons.
