Susan Marie Barnes Arnette, 86, passed away Friday. Oct. 14, 2016.  Born in Columbus, N.C., Marie was the daughter of the late Jenavy Cooper and Lossie C. Barnes.  She had lived in the area for 16 years, coming here to be close to family. 

In addition to her parents, Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Otha  Arnette Jr. (d. 2001);  son, Charles Randy Arnette; grandson, Matt Arnette; and siblings, Jr. Barnes and Deliah Parrott.  She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Larry Arnette (Candy), Joel Arnette, and James Arnette (Sandy); grandchildren, Amy Griffin, Julie Little, Angie Scott and Jennifer Anderson; great grandchildren, Caitlin Griffin, Ashley Anderson, Noah Griffin, Reagan Scott, Bryson Scott, Mikey Little and Miley Arnette; a daughter-in-law, Judy Arnette; sister, Elise Hillman; brothers, George Barnes and Guilford Barnes; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.  

Marie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.  She was a devoted homemaker and helped with the family’s needs by working as a seamstress with Coates & Clark for a number of years.  She was always grateful for the love and care given her in her later years, and gave a smile and a twinkle of the eye or a warm embrace in return.

Family and friends will gather Wednesday, Oct. 19, 1 p.m., in Carolina Baptist Church, 2401 Church Road Green Sea, S.C. 29545 for visitation, followed by a service celebrating Marie’s life at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Johnny Scott officiating.  Interment will follow in the Carolina Baptist Church Cemetery church cemetery.
