Betty Anne Wells Phelps

Betty Anne Wells Phelps, 58, passed away at home, Friday, Sept. 7, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Born in Waverley, she was the daughter of Roger Lane and Nora Adkins. In addition to her parents, Betty leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Clifford J. Phelps; daughter, Nicole Phelps; and son, Jason Phelps; five sisters and one brother; and a host of extended family and friends.
Family and faith sustained and supported Betty through her many days of illness. She worked for a few years at Smithfield Foods, and will be most remembered for her years at Pumkin Patch Craft store, a venture she was most proud of and passionate about. Betty never met a stranger and was a beloved foster mom and had a host of children she had “mothered.”
She was a member of Smithfield Baptist Church, and was a Red Hatter, and was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary, Post 49, and Volunteered with the Isle of Wight Rescue Auxiliary.
A service celebrating Betty’s life will be held Tuesday, September 11, 2 p.m. in Smithfield Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tim Lipp and Jimmy Ferguson. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will gather for visitation Monday, September 10, 6-8 p.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennett’s Creek Chapel.
