The 2019 Summer Concert Series opens Friday with an 8 p.m. performance by the Williamsburg Swing Orchestra.
The orchestra is a 16-piece authentic big band, offering the most popular music from the swing era, the 1930s and 1940s.
The band, under the direction of Dru Stowe, also performs pieces from contemporary big band composers and arrangers. The group’s website describes its goal of keeping the swing era “alive and kickin’.”
The Summer Concert Series is sponsored by The Smithfield Times and the Isle of Wight Arts League. Concerts are free to the public and staged on the Times Gazebo at 228 Main Street. Bring a lawn chair or blanket.
