Jackie Merritt, who introduced blues to the Summer Concert Series more than 15 years ago, returns to the Gazebo Stage this Friday at 8 p.m.

Merritt, who last performed here in 2005, will bring her M.S.G. Acoustic Blues Trio back to the stage to perform traditional Piedmont blues. Their style of music has been influenced by Archie Edwards, Etta Baker and Cephas and Wiggins. The trio offers a rousing mix of traditional songs as well as some originals.

The Summer Concert Series is sponsored by The Smithfield Times and Isle of Wight Arts League. Cancellations due to rain are made as late as possible on Friday. Rainouts are posted when possible on www.facebook.com/smithfield.times and www.smithfieldarts.org.
