Editor, The Smithfield Times:
Thank you once again to our amazing community for stepping up in a challenging time! The Smithfield Community Blood Drive is one of the most successful continuing drives in our area with a long history of committed donors and volunteers.
On July 23, with all appointments booked, 76 units were collected, yielding lifesaving resources for 228 patients. With so many drives canceled since the spring and summer, it’s important to note the July23rd drive was booked solid just a week after another successful drive at the Luter Y.
Thank you to the volunteers from Benn’s United Methodist Church who supported the registration, temp screening and canteen. Thank you to Trinity for the gracious use of your hall. Thank you to the Masons who, drive after drive, set up and take down the space. Last but not least, thank you to the true stars of the day, our donors.
We will be back at Trinity Sept. 24 from noon to 6 p.m. Appointments will be required once again. While we usually really appreciate the walk-ins, for safety precautions, workflows and distancing, we are not able to accommodate walk-in donors. Please visit www.redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS to schedule.
