The vehicle struck a tree stump in the cutover, causing it to flip and roll over.

The front seat passenger, Malcom R. Johnson, 29, of the 36300 block of Broadwater Road, Ivor, was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Johnson died at the scene shortly thereafter.

Mramor and a back seat passenger, 43-year-old Demarcus A. Gatling, were transported to Southside Regional Memorial Center with injuries not considered life-threatening, Virginia State Police said.

The crash is still under investigation. Any charges will be placed after consultation with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
