UPDATE: About 268 Dominion Energy customers in downtown Smithfield were still out of power as Saturday dragged on to the afternoon and evening.

Affected were virtually all of the core historic downtown as well as West Main Street across Route 10 to Waterworks Road.

A restoration time of 10 p.m. was reported by several customers. A tree on the line caused the issue, according to the Dominion Energy outage map.

Earlier: More than 1,000 Dominion Energy customers were without electricity Saturday morning in Smithfield and northern Isle of Wight County.

Dominion said 1,175 customers were affected as of 10:15 a.m. Saturday. Restoration time is unknown.
