Smithfield High School’s Sept. 9 junior varsity and Sept. 10 varsity football games against Jamestown High School have been postponed. According to Isle of Wight County Schools spokeswoman Lynn Briggs, the postponement is due to COVID-19 concerns “within the Jamestown Football program.”

There is no make-up date set for either game, Briggs said. Jamestown High’s athletics website, however, lists a tentative Oct. 26 makeup date for the varsity game, which would be played at Smithfield High, and a tentative Oct. 30 date for the JV game, which would be played at Sandford B. Wanner Stadium in James City County.

The Virginia Department of Health’s online coronavirus outbreak tracker for K-12 schools and long-term care facilities did not list an outbreak as having occurred at Jamestown as of Sept. 3 but is due to be updated Sept. 10.
