Lucille Gray Jones, 89, of Ivor, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Ruffin F. Gray and Elsie Walker Gray. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Jack Monroe Jones; daughters, Barbara J. Hunter (Billy), Brenda J. Crofts (Jim) and Wendy L. Sims (Carson); son, Jack M. Jones Jr.; grandchildren, Tracy Boykin (Chase), Chase Jones, Jack M. Jones III (Katelyne) and Daniel Crofts; great-grandchildren, Collin, Waverly, Raelyne, Everly, Caleigh and Easton; sisters, Josephine Edwards, Mary Vaughan and Betty Jones.
Mrs. Jones was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked on the farm beside her husband for 60-plus years. She could whip up a good country meal in 30 minutes, especially fried chicken and crackling biscuits. She was always worried that someone would leave the table hungry. She always put everyone else before herself. She loved to crochet and would give the afghans to her loved ones. She would spend hours working in her flowers even when she wasn’t able to due to her arthritis. She had a passion for collecting porcelain dolls. She loved decorating for Christmas. People from all around would drive out to see all the lights outside. There was Christmas spirit in the house all year long. Some of her holiday favorite sweets were homemade fudge and coconut pie, and she never had to use a recipe. There was so much love in the house, 69 years of marriage is proof of that. She will be greatly missed and will be in our hearts forever.
The family will hold a private graveside service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021, at Mill Swamp Cemetery, Ivor. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Pam Jordan, 18214 Farmview Lane, Windsor, VA 23487, or the Arthritis Association, www.arthritis.org.
