Smithfield High School junior Elizabeth “Liz” DeFluri won third place in the Virginia School boards Association’s 10th statewide student video contest.

The contest challenged high school students to create a 30-second video around the theme of “Virginia Public Schools: Stronger Than Ever.” DeFluri’s entry, titled “From Zoom to Homeroom,” highlights how students and staff have bounced back this year while still dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The contest allowed students to submit entries individually, as a small group or as a class project. Only one entry per school division was accepted. Videos were judged on how well they addressed the topic, the quality of the production and the depth of thought and creativity that went into making the video.
