Frances Arthur Martin, 93, of Smithfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021.

She was the daughter of the late Francis Marion Arthur and Patti Hupp. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Enoch Alvin Martin. Mrs. Martin is survived by her daughter, Shirley Martin Wecht and her husband Kenneth; brother, Thomas Calvin Arthur (Betty); and several beloved nieces and nephews; her special friends, Carolyn Gleason and Kenneth Eley.  She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mattie Johnson, and brothers, Buddy and Chester Arthur.

Mrs. Martin was a member of Trinity UMC and the Eastern Star. She was formerly a member of Riverview Methodist Church. She worked at ITT Gwaltney for more than 25 years and was also the past treasurer for the Town of Smithfield. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Lake Prince Woods.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021, at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield, with burial to follow in St. Luke’s Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Isle of Wight Humane Society.
