Helen Preston Carter, of Rescue, passed away Dec. 29, 2021, at the age of 99. Helen (Honey) was born in Titusville, Pennsylvania, Sept. 19, 1922, the first child of Theodore and Helen Preston’s 14 children.

In 1941, her family moved to Smithfield, where she met the love of her life, William “Bill” Carter, of Rescue. They married in 1942. They had four children, 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Helen was predeceased by William “Bill,” her husband of 78 years; son, William Jr.; brothers, Jack, Dick and Paul; sisters, Julia, Jean and Elaine.

She is survived by sons, Donald (Lynda), Michael (Ann); daughter, Linda Carter Farmer and daughter-in-law, Betty Carter; brothers, Ted, Bill, Tom and Denny; sisters, Polly, Nancy and Judi.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennett’s Creek Chapel, 2690 Bridge Road (Route 17), Suffolk. Due to the increase in COVID cases and other viruses, facial masks must be worn, and please keep your distance from others when possible.
