Surry County announced last week it has launched a new tourism website in coordination with Civic Plus, a web development business specializing in building “e-government communication systems” for city and county governments nationwide.
The new site, which will retain the domain name surrycountytourism.com, will have a new look and exciting new features such as mobile compatibility and assistive technology designed for those guests who require a Braille reader or other access assistance.
This project marks the third time Surry County has collaborated with Civic Plus, which previously developed the county government and economic development websites. “The Civic Plus team has really been a dream to work with. From our project kick-off meeting which took place in August 2021, all the way through to launching the new site, they have guided us with expertise and professionalism,” said Pat Bernshausen, tourism coordinator and website project manager.
The new website is expected to enhance the overall tourism program in Surry County by creating better awareness of the county’s brand and attractions, and by providing a more user-friendly means to engage potential guests to the area.
“Users of the new site will have the ability to subscribe through the ‘Notify Me’ module so that they will be able to receive updates each time a new event, announcement, business spotlight, or travel advisory is published to the site,” Bernshausen added. “Local businesses and attractions will also be able to submit event information directly from the homepage, making it easier to keep listings of upcoming events as up-to-date as possible.”
“Tourism plays a large role in the Surry County economy, and a new tourism website was a top priority for the Economic Development team,” said Yoti Jabri, economic development director. “Residents and guests will now have a more user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing experience to search attractions and events that Surry County has to offer.”
