Two Smithfield residents were among 578 college students nationwide who were inducted in Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society in March.

Emma Harris, a student at Campbell University in North Carolina, and Kelsey Briggs, a Virginia Tech student, were inducted by the Lexington-based society. Initiates must be sophomores, juniors, seniors or graduate/professional students in the top 35% of their class, demonstrate leadership experience in at least one of the society’s five pillars, and embrace the “ODK ideals.” Fewer than 5% of college students are invited to join each year.

Omicron Delta Kappa was founded in Lexington on Dec. 3, 1914.
