Lonnie W. Childress, 79, the son of the late Lou & Doris Childress passed away on May 9, 2022, surrounded by family.
Born in Hampton, VA, Lonnie developed a love of adventure. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and racing cars. He was the owner and operator of Childress Service Center for most of his life. Lonnie was known for his humor and would often greet customers with a funny anecdote. He was also a deacon at Moore’s Swamp Baptist Church. After moving to Elberon, VA, he and his surviving wife of 63 years, Ellen Childress, would often ride horses in places such as Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Lonnie was predeceased by his brother, Tommy Childress. In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his four children, Sherrie Davis (Husband, Stacy Davis), Lonnie Childress, Jr., Kevin Childress, and Keith Childress; brother, David Childress; sister, Doraine Childress; six grandchildren, Samantha Walter, Robert Walter, Jessica Childress, Kody Childress, Rebecca Childress, and Emily Childress.
A private memorial service will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, Wakefield Chapel is serving the family. Condolences may be registered at RWBakerFH.com.
