A bicyclist died May 19 after being struck by a car in Isle of Wight County.

According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 6:17 p.m. Thursday at  Foursquare Road and Magnet Drive, just under two miles southwest of Smithfield.

The bicyclist, identified as 56-year-old Kamil Metin Uz of Palo Alto, California, was traveling south on Magnet Drive. According to police, he failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a 2010 Acura passenger car traveling west on Foursquare Road. Uz was thrown from his bicycle and died at the scene.

The driver of the Acura, identified as Terry W. McGee of Smithfield, and his passenger did not sustain any injuries.

Neither alcohol nor speed were factors, and no charges will be filed, police said. Uz’s next of kin has been notified.
