A Smithfield man died early Sunday when he lost control of his 2017 Chevrolet Camaro on Brewer’s Neck Boulevard and struck a tree.

Davont’a Aubrey Croker, 24, of Battery Park Road, died on impact, Virginia State Police said in a news release.

The accident happened at 12:53 a.m. north of Deep Bottom Drive.

Croker was traveling north “at a high rate of speed” when he lost control of the vehicle, police said. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
