Since the shooting in Uvalde, Texas, President Joe Biden has used it to reinforce his battle for gun control.

In 2020, according to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, there were 45,022 gun murders and non-negligent manslaughters. Some 54%, or 24,092, were suicides, which account for the majority of U.S. deaths; however, they get less public attention than gun murders. Some 43%, or 19,384, were murders, and 3%, or 1,546, were unintentional (611 involved law enforcement, 400 undetermined circumstances and 535 unintentional).

Now compare this to the number of 2019 abortions, 629,898, according to the CDC’s last full year of available data. However, a model-based approach developed by researchers for Guttmacher Institute, the World Health Organization and the United Nations put the average annual number of abortions in the United States around 886,000, both medical (taking of pills) and surgical (minor operation). Independent clinics provided 60% of the abortions while Planned Parenthood provided 35%.

On Jan. 22, 1973, Roe vs. Wade, the Supreme Court decision, legalized abortions in all 50 states. From 1973 to 1980, the abortion rate rose almost 80%, peaking at 29.3 abortions per 1,000 woman of childbearing age, according to Guttmacher Institute.

Since President Biden mentioned “God” in his speech (“for God’s sake”), I will do the same. With the old devil out there rampantly running about, God has given us an answer and way out of this turmoil. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
