Those looking for a place to enjoy breakfast or lunch with a twist have a new option in the town of Windsor.

Country Java Artisan Cafe, located at 36 E. Windsor Blvd., opened near the end of May, and town and Isle of Wight County officials gathered with the business’ co-owners, Lamont Bethea and Ergo Thomson, for a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 28.

Thomson, who was joined at the ceremony by his wife and children, indicated that he was blessed to see the cafe opened and operating.

“It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do, both me and my business partner,” he said. “We’ve always had the passion and a dream to have our own place.”

Thomson said he and Bethea started making arrangements for the cafe in February before officially opening for business May 28.

He then explained what he and Bethea are aiming for with the cafe in terms of what it offers.

“We kind of did a twist on things — a little bit of country, a little bit of city,” he said. “We roast our own coffee, so it’s kind of a coffee house deal, but we also smoke our barbecued meats in house, so it’s kind of a mix between the two. And then we’ve taken recipes and put a twist on those.”

The cafe is open Monday-Saturday from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

“We have breakfast all day, lunch offerings, of course,” Thomson said. “We have a little bit of everything, a little bit of pastries, so we do some baking there as well.”
