Smithfield, Surry seasons to kick off; IWA falls in opener

High school football kicks off this week for Smithfield and Surry high schools, while Isle of Wight Academy will look to rebound from a season-opening loss.
Smithfield, coming off a 3-8 season, hosts King’s Fork at 7 p.m. Friday in the season opener for both teams. SHS fans are encouraged to wear blue.
Isle of Wight Academy, which lost its season opener 21-0 to Atlantic Shores Christian, hosts Portsmouth Christian at 7 p.m. Friday. Portsmouth Christian lost its season opener 41-14 on the road at Fredericksburg Christian. IWA finished 6-4 last season.
Surry High, which finished 5-6 last fall, will play at noon Saturday at Bruton, which is 1-0 after a 37-19 win over Northampton.
