Isle of Wight County Fair ready to roll

The Isle of Wight County Fair is set to kick off this week.

The fun begins Wednesday, Sept. 14 with the county’s annual Seafood Fest, held at the Heritage Park fairgrounds from 4-9 p.m. The all-you-can-eat event will be catered by Captain Bob’s, featuring a menu of fried fish, steamed shrimp, fried chicken, coleslaw, baked beans and hush puppies. Music will be by Hickory Knoll. Tickets are $40 in advance or $45 at the gate.

The fair will open Thursday, Sept. 15, from 5-10 p.m. Admission is $50 per carload if purchasing tickets online, or $55 per car at the gate. This year’s events include a firefighting training show, Cowboy Circus with Danny Grant, The Ninja Experience and Majestik Spectacular Thrill Show.

On Friday, Sept. 16, the fair opens at 10 a.m. with $1 admission for senior citizens and students who enter the gates between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Musical acts include performances by Smithfield High School’s and Windsor High School’s bands Friday morning, The Mullins Sisters at 7:30 p.m. and Hotel California: A Salute to the Eagles as the evening’s headliner band.

True Grit Rodeo is set for Sept. 16 and Saturday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m.

Saturday’s musical performances include the Griffin Lane Band and headliner Frankie Ballard.

Sunday, Sept. 18, will include a performance by the Whiskey River Band and a 3:30 p.m. demolition derby. The fair closes at 6 p.m. Sunday.
