Editor, The Smithfield Times:

Mr. Lewis Edmonds certainly hit on the correct and right comments in his letter (“Since we’re naming stuff …,” Sept. 7).

I actually thought he should have compared the school board and especially Mrs. Denise Tynes with the dictators of the world in the management of the schools in Isle of Wight County. Never have so few ignored so many about the management of school policies.

When the school board approved the payoff to previous superintendent Dr. Jim Thornton without the fifth member of the board there to vote his district, it became bluntly clear that only one member of the board is not controlled by the board chairperson.

I also did not hear any comments from the county Supervisors concerning this matter. Mr. Edmonds and I both know that it is a laughing matter to expect Mr. Thornton to donate dollars for non-CTE activities.

Mr. Edmonds should run for the Windsor District School Board representative opposing Mr. Vines. He would get my vote.
