Heaven gained an angel with the passing of Rebecca Melton Edwards on Tuesday, September 27, 2022. Born in Enfield, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Dennis and Madeline Melton. She met and married her late husband Fitzhugh L Edwards Jr. in 1970 and together they raised a family on the Edwards farm and celebrated 45 years of marriage until his passing in 2015. She is also predeceased by her infant daughter, Lee. She loved her Lord and attended Benn’s United Methodist church as often as her health would allow.

Rebecca was a commercial artist and enjoyed making and painting ceramic treasures in her shop. Her favorite ceramics were her Christmas Santa’s which she loved setting out for the Christmas holiday. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and making up new recipes. No one who ate at her table went away hungry. She always made sure you were well fed. She loved working in her garden with her flowers and passed along her love of nature to her children and grandchildren. One of her favorite pastimes was cane pole fishing at Edwards Finger Lake and she was always trying to hook that big bass that managed to slip away. She loved her family deeply and would always call every morning and every evening to check up on everyone to see how we were doing and if anybody needed anything. She demonstrated that love of family trait to everyone one of us every day of her life.

Rebecca leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Ellen Howard of Chesapeake, Mary Hassell (Nathan), and David Edwards of Smithfield; five grandchildren, Joshua, Daniel, Hannah, Emma, and Benjamin. A brother, Hodge Melton of Jefferson City, Tennessee and sister, Hilda Cockrell (Bert) of Hampton; and a host of nieces and nephews and extended family.
