Jean Sowards Goodrich

Jean Sowards Goodrich of Smithfield, VA passed away on September 28, 2022. Born April 10, 1935, she was the daughter of the late William Everett Sowards and Marie McAllister Sowards. She was predeceased by her husband James Robert Goodrich; daughter, Mary Lynne G. Davis; grandchildren, Rachel E. Lightsey and Josiah D. Lightsey; brother, William T. Sowards; sister, Mary S. Stewart; and stepmother, Frances Blake Sowards.

Jean loved her family and the Lord and was a very obedient child of God. She was a charter member and donated the land for the building of the Smithfield Church of the Nazarene. She was an awesome cook and loved cooking for her family and friends. Her birthplace of Hurricane, West Virginia was one her favorite places to visit.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Phyllis G. Cox (Carson), Marsha G. Lightsey, and Robin J. Turner (Stan); grandchildren, Aaron J. Cox (Amanda), Catharine C. Boucher (Bobby), Brandon D. Davis (Heather), Ashleigh A. Davis (Randy Atkins), Phillip Davis (Danielle), Rebekah Greer (Thommy), Daniel Lightsey (Celeste), Abigail E. Meier (David), James F. Willett (Amanda), Laura T. Reid (Rob); many great grandchildren; and several nephews and their families.

A memorial service will be held at 2PM, Saturday, October 8, 2022, in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel, with Pastor James Willett officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Christian Outreach or the Isle of Wight County Rescue Squad. Condolences may be posted at RWBakerFH.com.
