IWA XC teams shine

Isle of Wight Academy’s varsity boys and girls cross country teams finished in first place in a recent meet sponsored by Denbigh Baptist Christian School.

IWA’s John Butler finished first in the boys race with a time of 19:16.20. Teammate Pierce Cutler finished second with a time of 19:17.80.

Eighth-grader Zachary Jackson (20:39.30) and teammate Jayce Joyner (21:11.50) rounded out the top-10 finishers for the Chargers.

IWA’s Hannah Edwards finished first in the girls race with a time of 20:37.60. Alexandra Wilson finished third (22:16.70). Hannah McClain finished ninth at 23:33.30, and Lauren Maust finished 10th at 24:39.10 to round out the Chargers’ top 10.

The boys junior varsity squad finished second on a day that saw 14 personal records set.

VOLLEYBALL

The IWA volleyball team finished off an undefeated week, downing Portsmouth Christian School 3-2 and Southampton High School 3-1.

Against the Patriots, IWA was paced by Elizabeth McBee with 10 kills. Classmate Claire Askew added eight.

Taylor Boutin led the way in serving with five aces. Nora Bye and Macy Hooper each had eight assists for the Chargers.

Askew had five kills and Pye added four against Southampton. Rylee Robertson had five aces, and Boutin and McKee each had 19 digs to defeat the Indians.
