Playoffs begin for young Packers

In the first week of the Peninsula Youth Football and Cheerleading Organization’s fall playoffs,  Smithfield Packers Youth Sports had three teams active and one with a bye. In early play, the No. 6-seeded 6-and-under Blue squad traveled to the Warhill Sports Complex and defeated the third-seeded Grafton Tabb Tigers 25-19.

The 10U and 12U squads traveled to Poquoson Middle School, where the 10Us fell in overtime 13-7 to the host Back River Bulls and the 12Us fell to the VA Eagles 6-0 with the only points of the contest scored in the last 10 seconds of regulation. The 14U team enjoyed a first-round bye. Details for the second round of playoffs are pending, with the 6U Blue team facing a to-be-determined opponent and location, while the third-seeded 14U team will face off against the fourth-seeded Tri-Citi Hurricanes at a location to be decided.

Additionally, Smithfield Packers Youth Sports will host the annual Hamtown Veterans Classic on Sunday, Nov. 13, at Smithfield High School. The event will start at 9 a.m. with the 6U Flag team hosting the York Seaford Falcons, followed at 11 a.m. by the 10U team hosting the Peninsula Saints, and finishing up with the 12U and 14U teams hosting the Churchland Tigers at noon and 2 p.m. Admission is $5 per person age 6 and older. Concessions will be available.
