Evelyn Garris Johnson, 92, of Carrollton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, December 5, 2022. She has now reunited with her husband of 65 years, Joseph Wallace (“JW”; “Nubby”) Johnson, Sr. She was the daughter of the late Theodore Garris and Mamie Ipock Garris.

Evelyn was a long time resident of Carrollton and the Peninsula for over 70 years. She and JW, spent nearly 20 years retired, RVing across the US.

Evelyn retired from Carrollton Tobacco. Earlier years she worked retail at Colonial stores, Johnson’s Confectionery, Miller & Rhoads, and Lerner. Her devotion to the Lord was illustrated through her membership at Harvest Fellowship Baptist Church of Smithfield.

Evelyn loved the Lord, her family, and working puzzles. She enjoyed her days traveling and playing games with JW and their camping extended family.

Left to treasure her memory are her sons, Joseph W. “JW”, Jr (Sherry) and Gregory “Bear”; grandchildren, James Grayson “Jamie” (Stephanie), Kristina Nicole Johnson Dunn (Mason), Ryan Shock (LeeAnn), and Missy Jefferson (Pete); three great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; a brother, Theodore “Ted” Eugene Garris (Mary Alice); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation and funeral service will be held at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield, VA. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 7, evening from 6 to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2022, 2 p.m. with burial to follow in St. Luke’s Memorial Park.
