The Gatling Pointe Yacht Club is under new ownership.

December land records for Isle of Wight County show the sale of the 10.54-acre clubhouse and marina to GPYC Holdings LLC for $1.49 million.

Nick and Julie Hess, who opened Red Point Taphouse on South Church Street in 2021, have partnered with Gordon and Deb Holloway, also of Smithfield, to take over the club’s management.

The club’s private restaurant, which remains open, will stay exclusive to yacht club members, Hess said.

“The menu will change eventually,” he said, but aside from that and minor cosmetic changes, the club will largely look and operate the same as ever.

The facility, which overlooks the James and Pagan rivers, first opened in 1988 in the Gatling Pointe housing development just outside Smithfield.

According to Nick Hess, the change in ownership came about when the club’s prior owners approached Holloway through mutual friends.

The restaurant will remain its own entity, separate from Red Point Taphouse. Red Point operates under a separate partnership between the Hesses, Derek Joyner and Tim Ryan.

Editor’s note: This story has been updated to reflect Deb Holloway is also among the new owners of Gatling Pointe Yacht Club, and that Nick Hess’s wife, Julie, has stepped down as general manager of Red Point Taphouse.
