The Virginia division of Law Enforcement United, a group of volunteers dedicated to honoring police officers who have died in the line of duty and their surviving family, passed through Smithfield on bicycles and in patrol cars as part of its annual Road to Hope tour. Police officers from departments across the state and nation participated in the roughly 250-mile bike ride from Chesapeake to Washington, D.C.
