Pedestrian fatally struck in Carrollton; driver charged with DUI

A Newport News woman has been charged with drunken driving after an unidentified pedestrian was struck late Saturday night in Carrollton and later died. Authorities are seeking the public’s help in identifying the victim.
The incident occurred just before midnight at Route 17/Carrollton Boulevard and Eagle Harbor Parkway.
An unknown female was “walking in the lane of travel with dark clothing,” Virginia State Police said, when she was struck by a 2015 Nissan Altima driven by Katelynn Anna Reyes, 28, of Newport News. The victim was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, where she died. The victim did not have any form of identification.
Reyes was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
State Police are looking for witnesses who were in the area of Route 17 near Eagle Harbor Parkway prior to or at the time of the crash.  The victim may have been struck by a second, unknown vehicle, VSP said in a news release. Police are also seeking any information that will help identify the victim.
