Letter – McCarty foe is a mystery

Editor, The Smithfield Times:
A lot of questions have been answered here recently in our newspaper, questionnaires, debates and social media. But I do think there is a burning question unanswered for the citizens in District 2 of Isle of Wight: Who is this opponent running against Chairman William McCarty? They didn’t submit answers to the questionnaire for the paper. They declined attending and presenting in the debates. What is this opponent running on? How do the voters know? How can citizens take the candidate seriously if the candidate supplies no information and shows no interest in being a public figure. How can we be sure they won’t decline certain responsibilities moving forward?
I know that anxiety and fear can drive a lot of our decisions as humans. Maybe that is what drives them to not participate. Is that somebody we want seated on the Board of Supervisors?
Chairman McCarty has been precise, clear and transparent in his intentions, goals and efforts for this county. I’d rather know and be informed than just guess on Election Day.
