Letter – Traffic will get worse

Editor, The Smithfield Times:
I am pretty sure everyone is aware of all the traffic backups on Jan. 11 due to the multiple accidents. Those type of traffic backups will be the norm in Smithfield and Isle of Wight County if all of these developments keep getting approved.
These types of traffic backups or volume of traffic are not due to everyone leaving Isle of Wight County to do their shopping. Most of these were citizens trying to get home from work. When a worker from Newport News Shipbuilding leaves work at 3:30 and gets home to Gloucester quicker than workers leaving at the same time can get home to Smithfield, well then there’s a problem and it’s the volume of vehicles on the roads trying to get to Isle of Wight County or Smithfield.
It’s not hard to figure out that the issue is overcrowding of these roads because of the overdevelopment of the Carrollton/Smithfield area.
