A shopping center being built next to Smithfield’s new Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles office will house a Mexican restaurant and a hair salon.
The 4,800-square-foot DMV, which broke ground in April of last year, opened in June on South Church Street. Warren Sachs, whose KLS Battery Park Development Group LLC owns the land and leases the standalone office to the DMV, recently broke ground on the adjacent 7,200-square-foot shopping center.
The shopping center’s steel framework is underway. The building is designed to house up to four tenants, though only three are planned at present.
According to a flier advertising a remaining 1,500-square-foot space, the corner unit facing South Church Street and the DMV is under contract to be leased to Great Clips Hair Salon, a nationwide franchise with 92 locations in Virginia.
Two other units will be combined to house “1942 Tacos & Tequila,” a Mexican restaurant franchise with locations in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.
Sachs did not immediately respond to The Smithfield Times’ request for comments. The flier does not give an estimate of when construction will be complete.
