Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil appears to have been correct last week when he predicted six more weeks of winter.
According to the National Weather Service, another snowstorm moving west to east is on its way toward Isle of Wight and Surry counties, marking the region’s fourth this winter.
Areas north of Richmond are expected to see the most snow. The NWS forecast as of Monday morning showed Smithfield receiving less than a half-inch of accumulation starting before 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Some areas of Carrollton aren’t expected to see any accumulation.
Areas of Surry could see up to 2 inches.
The snow is expected to transition to rain and sleet after 4 p.m. in Isle of Wight, and after 7 p.m. in Surry, coupled with northeast winds up to 11 mph and a low of 33 degrees.
Surry County Public Schools announced its School Board meeting scheduled for Feb. 11 has been postponed to Feb. 18 because of the weather. A 4 p.m. budget work session and public hearing on the proposed SCPS budget is scheduled ahead of the regular 6 p.m. meeting that day.
