Police seek Hampton man charged with Woods Edge shooting

Smithfield Police are searching for a Hampton man wanted in connection with a Feb. 8 shooting at Woods Edge Apartments that left a resident of the housing complex in critical condition.
Smithfield Police say the shooting occurred in the early hours of Saturday. Officers found a single victim with multiple gunshot wounds, who was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police on Feb. 11 identified the suspect as 42-year-old Anthony Lamont Haywood of Hampton. He is wanted on charges of attempted murder, assault, using a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a violent felon, maliciously shooting into an occupied building, and shooting within 1,000 feet of a school. Woods Edge and the adjacent Jersey Park Apartments are each located less than 1,000 feet from Westside Elementary School on the opposite side of West Main Street.
Brown is described as 6-foot-1-inches in height, 180 pounds with brown eyes. His last known address was an apartment at the Monticello at Town Center complex on Montpelier Place in Hampton.
Police are urging anyone with information on Haywood’s whereabouts to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or submit a tip anonymously using the P3 Tips app or P3Tips.com.
Police urge anyone who sees Haywood to refrain from coming into contact with him and to call 911 or the non-emergency line at 757-357-2151.
A cash reward of up to $1,500 is available for information that leads to an arrest. Tipsters can remain anonymous and will not have to appear in court.
