Smithfield Police seek suspect accused of robbing Truist Bank at gunpoint

Smithfield Police are seeking a suspect accused of robbing the Truist Bank on South Church Street.
Police responded to the bank just after 2 p.m. on Feb. 19 as heavy snow from Winter Storm Kingston fell over Smithfield. Police say the suspect displayed a firearm and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
“Smithfield Police are actively investigating this incident in collaboration with the FBI,” the department said on its Facebook page. “We would like to thank the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.
The investigation is ongoing.
Police have released an image of the suspect taken from a bank security camera. It shows the suspect dressed in sunglasses, a black head covering and a reflective orange safety vest.
Police are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect to call the Crime Line at 1-800-LOCK-U-UP or submit an anonymous tip at P3Tips.com.
