Editor, The Smithfield Times:
In a time when we often hear complaints about “kids these days,” I’m here to say that there are still plenty of great ones out there. And three of them showed up at my house during this latest snowfall, ready to put in some good, honest work.
These three young kids, around 10 years old, knocked on our door and asked my wife if she’d like them to shovel our driveway — for a little money, of course. They weren’t just looking for a handout; they were looking to earn it. The second my wife said yes, their faces lit up with excitement, and they got straight to work.
No complaining, no cutting corners — just pure effort and determination. They tackled that driveway like professionals, and before we knew it, the job was done. They didn’t waste time or half-do the work; they gave it their all, and their pride in a job well done was evident.
Now, I know some folks love to talk about how “kids don’t work hard anymore” or “they don’t have the same drive we did.” But let me tell you, these three proved that wrong. They saw an opportunity, took initiative, and put in the effort to earn a little money the right way. That’s the kind of work ethic and attitude that will take them far in life.
So the next time you hear someone say the younger generation doesn’t have what it takes, think of these kids. There are still plenty out there who know the value of hard work and aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves.
To these three young go-getters: Kudos to you! Your drive, energy and willingness to put in the effort are noticed and appreciated. Keep that spirit alive, because the world needs more of it!
