Burdette Road detour in place

A portion of Route 619, also known as Burdette Road, is closed at the Isle of Wight-Southampton county line.

Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation closed the road starting March 7 to perform slope and shoulder stabilization work along the Blackwater River. For the duration of the work, the road will be closed to all traffic between Route 629, also known as Line Pine Road, and Stringwood Lane, with signed detours in place. Access to all existing private proerptry along Route 619 will be maintained at all times.

According to VDOT, the work includes the installation of over 280 linear feet of slope foundation barrier to protect the road from erosion and water damage and is scheduled to be completed as early as this spring.The work is weather- and schedule-dependent.

Traffic approaching Route 619 from Windsor using Route 258 south, also known as Courthouse Highway, is to use the following detour:

  • Continue south on Route 258 (Walters Highway)
  • Right onto Route 611 (Joyners Bridge Road)
  • Right onto Route 635 (Black Creek Road)
  • Right onto Route 619 (Burdette Road)

Traffic approaching Route 619 while headed southbound on Route 635, also known as Black Creek Road, will use the following detour:

  • Continue south on Route 635 (Black Creek Road)
  • Left onto Rout 611 (Joyners Bridge Road) 
  • Left onto Route 258 (Walters Highway)
  • Left onto Rout 619 (Burdette Road)
