Main Street was awash in green and orange as Smithfield’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade returned on March 15. Terry Andrews, a retiring librarian with the Smithfield branch of Blackwater Regional Library, served as the grand marshall. After the parade, children gathered on the lawn of the Smithfield Times office where girl scouts sold cookies and the Blackwater Regional Library bookmobile and an Isle of Wight County Animal Shelter adoption van were parked. Hayden’s Lane, a public park connecting Main and Grace streets, hosted a story walk where children could read the book “How to Catch a Leprechaun” from March 14-17.
