Editor, The Smithfield Times:
Yaaas! The Smithfield Farmers Market is finally reopening on April 5 at our traditional location at the Bank of Southside Virginia with slightly new hours of 9 a.m. to noon.
This will be our 23rd year of operations since opening in 2002. We are working hard to ensure a permanent future home for vendors, shoppers, browsers, staff, sponsors and furry friends that benefits all of us — not an easy task, but we know working together we can find the right solutions.
As always, the market features a variety of produce, farm-raised products, local seafood, hot food and artisan crafts. This season we have many of our returning vendors, but we are still accepting applications now and throughout the year for vendors selling produce, farm goods and specialty foods.
The Smithfield Farmers Market has been a staple in our local community and serves as a valuable incubator for small bricks-and-mortar businesses such as Yummaries, Chili Hill Foods & Farm, Perfectly Natural Soap and Darden’s Country Store, to name a few! The Smithfield Farmers Market not only serves the Smithfield community but the local communities of Surry, Windsor, Rushmere, Carrollton, Battery Park, Rescue, Ivor, Suffolk, Carrsville, Waverly, Wakefield and more.
Our vendors come together every Saturday to bring our customers the best available product whether it’s veggies for your Saturday night barbecue, a handmade necklace to gift to your mom for Mother’s Day, a bottle of local honey to help with your seasonal allergies, or to serve as a meet-up location with your friends for a hot lunch and conversation at one of our picnic tables. We believe that we have something for everyone and are always looking to bring in more product that fits the need of the public.
We have so many great small businesses at the market that truly need and count on the support of the community in order to continue to flourish for years to come. So we invite you to come out from April to November to do just that, starting on April 5 from 9 a.m.-noon at BSV. See you there!
