Elsie Cobb Gwaltney

Elsie Cobb Gwaltney, 93, peacefully passed away with her family by her side on the farm where she lived for nearly 75 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 68 years, Melvin H. Gwaltney. She was the daughter of the late Walter Henry Cobb, Jr. and Lorena Beale Cobb. She was also predeceased by her sister Doris Virginia Cobb Fowler and brothers Robert Henry Cobb and Lawrence Burnley Cobb.

She assisted her husband in operating Gwaltney Automotive Service for twenty years. At her death, she was the oldest member of Bethany United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the Moonlight Ruritan Club and the Colonial Virginia Model A Ford Club. She is survived by her sons, Gene C. Gwaltney and Gerald H. Gwaltney (Sheila); four grandchildren, Jonathan H. Gwaltney, Caroline M. Gwaltney, Ginny G. Rohlfing (Andy) and Jessica Tracoma (Dustin); great grandchildren Ezra Tracoma, Parker Rohlfing and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held in Bethany United Methodist Church on Friday April 4 at 2 pm. Donations may be made to Bethany UMC, c/o Raymond Edwards, 13088 Mill Swamp Rd, Smithfield, VA 23430.
