Letter – Elected leaders are out of touch

Editor, The Smithfield Times:
I have tried the last few years to refrain from politics. However, over and over again I witness governing bodies voting opposite of how the citizens desire.
That is a problem. Founding fathers intended for a government “of the people, by the people and for the people.” This is a core principle of democracy that our local politicians have mostly forgotten, and it is infuriating.
Come on, folks, let’s all start holding these officials we elected to represent us to do just that. REPRESENT THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE! If they cannot do that, we should remove them. They have not been voting the citizens’ desires, and it must stop.
I am back!
