Broken circuit cuts power to over 1,000 across IW, Surry counties

Over 1,000 Dominion Energy customers are without power in Isle of Wight and Surry counties.

Dominion’s online outage map showed 1,053 affected customers as of 4:38 p.m. on April 18 concentrated in the Rushmere area of Isle of Wight and areas of Surry County along the western bank of Lawnes Creek. The website listed “circuit out” as the cause.

Crews are assessing damage. The outage map lists an estimated restoration time between 6-9 p.m.

Prince George Electric Cooperative, which also serves parts of Surry and northern Isle of Wight, showed four out of 20 Isle of Wight customers and 350 out of 2,329, or 15%, of its Surry customers without power as of 4:42 p.m. Those customers are also largely concentrated in the Rushmere area and along the west bank of Lawnes Creek.

Windsor-based Community Electric Cooperative showed no outages for its customers in Isle of Wight or Surry counties.
