Editor, The Smithfield Times:

I went out to Smithfield Station recently to celebrate my 50th birthday. Our server could not have been friendlier, and the food was delicious.  

The “icing on the cake,” so to speak, was when it came time to settle the bill. The server let us know that someone in the room where we were overheard that it was my birthday and wanted to pay the bill AND sent us dessert. We were absolutely flabbergasted when that happened!  

In an overly negative world, this was a breath of fresh air. It seems unlikely that whoever paid for our dinner will see this letter, but if they do, thank you for your generosity!

In these challenging times, good people DO exist.
