A couple is seeking the town’s approval to turn their waterfront home in Smithfield’s Moonefield area into an event center.
According to a public notice published in the April 23 and April 30 print editions of The Smithfield Times, homeowners John and Tammy Glover are seeking a special use permit for “an event facility as principal/accessory use” at 54 Faye Drive. The matter is scheduled for a May 13 public hearing at the Smithfield Planning Commission’s monthly meeting.
According to Smithfield Community Development and Planning Director Tammie Clary, the application is for a “secondary use as a weekend small-scale wedding venue.”
According to Isle of Wight County tax assessment records, the 5.1-acre property includes a pier, boat lift and 5,415-square-foot dwelling overlooking the Pagan River.
The Planning Commission may or may not vote the same day as the hearing on its recommendation to Smithfield’s Town Council, which will have the final say on the application.
